CCTV in the Public Sector
Without doubt, the management teams responsible for local authority CCTV face unprecedented challenges.
The proposed reductions in public sector budgets accompanied by regulatory changes in line with the objectives of the coalition Government to increase privacy and roll back central and local Government influence will have a profound impact on how CCTV is managed.
The forthcoming regulation of public sector CCTV, as well as amendments to regulations regarding data and the usage of RIPA for covert surveillance is also expected.
In the face of these forthcoming changes, some local authorities have already re-evaluated their surveillance systems to take account of budget savings, efficiency and privacy issues.
Focus on the forthcoming changes
The ninth annual Local Authority CCTV Conference takes place at Local Government House on 29 September. It focuses on the forthcoming changes, and looks towards Best Practice for public sector CCTV under future regulation initiatives and budgetary reductions.
With large-scale change imminent, this is an important conference for local authority CCTV managers, community safety managers and their policing partners involved in public sector CCTV, and those companies supplying the public sector, as it provides the first real opportunity to examine the priorities of the new Government. The conference is also suitable for community safety portfolio holders.
This event will focus on the key issues for local authority CCTV managers and industry suppliers, including the:
- regulation of CCTV
- impact of the Freedom (Great Repeal) Bill on public sector CCTV
- future for RIPA and associated regulatory changes affecting surveillance
- operation of public sector CCTV within reduced budgets
Delegates on the day will be privy to Case Studies where successes have been achieved through outsourcing, rationalisation and the merging of services.
